(Part 1)
The COVID-19 Pandemic has exposed and shown the weaknesses of the local church. There has been very little taught regarding spiritual gifts and their purposes and that has contributed to the global crisis being experienced, and so there are very little solutions being brought forth, and this as deception increases.
There is a variety of spiritual gifts that have been afforded us. There are the Gifts of the Father, Gifts of the Son and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. In this article, I am focusing more on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12: 7 says, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:”
There many who ask from time to time – “What is my calling?” Others may ask, “What is my purpose or assignment?”
In my book, Know Your Calling In The Fivefold Ministry, answer some of the questions commonly asked. In my view, and based on my experience, I believe that over 70 per cent of Christians today have no clue as to their calling or purpose. It is a sad state of affairs, because not only is the Kingdom of God not benefitting, but the world is seeking for answers in the wrong places from the wrong sources – tarot cards, tea leaves, palm readers, psychic networks, obeah/mayal, and other occult activities. If members of the Body of Christ were utilizing their gits, then crime and violence would not be where it is today.
Sadly, the moment some Christians begin to manifest their gifts, they are persecuted and deemed evil by their peers. Also, theologists begin to manipulate then and tell them their gifts are not relevant to now. Some are even told that Apostles and Prophets no longer exist only Pastors, Evangelists. As a result, there are many churches which are without the head, eyes or brain! It is interesting that the word Apostle is mentioned 83 times; Prophets 172 times and Pastors only 1 time.
Ephesians 2: 20, states that they are the foundation for the Church. So, why do they want to undo what God has established? So, if there are no Apostles and Prophets in the Church, why would there be Pastors?
Thus, the revival that God wants to do and that the Church needs is being hindered and it is the same members of the Body of Christ which are in fact hindered. So, the local churches are now headless, and that stops them from effectively dealing with the spiritual warfare, and the deception coming from every wind of doctrine, including the utterances of scientists that have been given precedence in the House of God/Body of Christ, over the instructions and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
It is important to note that among the deceptions, is untruth that not everybody can have access to the giftings of the Holy Spirit as recorded in 1 Corinthians 12, and they make particular mention of, speaking in tongues; which we must realize is a grace given to every individual. (1 Corinthians 14) It is our personal protocol language to communicate directly to God in heaven. This allows us to pray accurately according to the will of God for our lives, nation and church, and deal with Spiritual Warfare effectively to unlock the mysteries of God and bring solutions in the earth. (Romans 8; Matthew 7: 11, Luke 11: 13)
Speaking in tongues is different from the gifts of Diverse Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues. Please note that the gifts of Diverse Tongues and the Interpretation of Tongues are each part of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12; Joel 2: 28; Acts 1: 8, Acts 2: 1 – 4). Speaking in tongues is not among those 9 gifts. Again, it is a grace given to all so they may be effectively edified. By virtue of 1 Corinthians 14, it would mean that many today are not being edified, and that needs to change. So, let it be clear, that a person can be baptized by the Holy Spirit evidenced by them speaking in tongues, but, that does not mean they possess the gift of Diverse Tongues nor the Interpretation of Tongues.
That being said, we should not confuse what Paul the Apostle said in 1 Corinthians 14 regarding private self-edification with tongues in a corporate gathering. In part 2, I will go on further in explaining the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
