As the nation of Jamaica goes to the polls yet again, many have different
levels of expectation – many approach hesitantly because the political
system over the years has been disappointing and fraught with great
inadequacies.
With each election, less people go to the polls to vote and each time a
general election is called, the gap between those who vote and those who
don’t widen. It almost seems as if a non-government entity leads the nation
because the percentage of non-voting citizens is greater than the
percentage of voters.
As at 2016, there were 1,824,410 eligible voters. However only 870,663
eligible voters voted. It means that 953,747 eligible voters did not vote.
So, more than 53% of the total number of persons who were eligible to vote
DID NOT vote.
This tells us several things including the fact that possibly those who did
not vote did not have confidence in either party. It also tells that the result
of that election day, may not be a true reflection of the national consensus.
It is possible that if 100% of the eligible voters turned out on that day, there
would be a different administration in power.

What would happen if in the next elections there is 100% voter turnout?
What if leading up to this election, vote-buying strategies fail? What if the
witchcraft that many engage in during election season fails this time
around, or what if an earthquake, storm or whirlwind occurs? What if more
of one party decides to vote and the other party refuses to exercise their
civic duty in this way? There could be shock and awe in the nation!
What will happen to the those who over the period of time continually
neglected their constituencies – those seasoned politicians on either side,
who think have the race in the bag – will God judge them, or will the people
judge them this time?
The Plumb Line

Oftentimes when people enter the election race they focus on polls and
campaigns, but the key is God’s grace and favor. That is what will decide.
In the upcoming election, people need to look beyond the election day.
The leadership that will be better able to weather the storms ahead will be
elected – because there will be great challenges ahead. It will be more than
COVID-19. The focus will be famine, food, finance and faith. God will use
the plumb line to measure the performance of both political parties – but
particularly the government. The question is, was the government of the
day building from God’s prescribed order?
The plumb line is an instrument, according to Amos 7: 7 – 9, which God
uses to measure. It determines if the building is true, vertical to the earth,
or crooked. If the building is made to the prescribed order then all will be
well. However, if there is a violation of the code and the wall is not straight,
then it will be demolished. God will use Justice and Judgement as the
measure, and each plumb line comes with different judgements.

Challenges Ahead
There should not be any celebration after the elections, as the challenges
ahead will be beyond significant. Hence, the winner of the day will need
Divine Direction and Intervention. The winner may not have what it takes
to last for the next four (4) or five (5) years. There may be more quick
elections ahead.
Is the timing of the election right/wise, or should the government of the day
wait? How important is the date – 9/3/20. Let us look at it.
The number 9 means, “Fruit of the Spirit, harvest (good or bad), Labor,
Judgement, Birthing”. Furthermore, the flip side of the number 9 means
“the works of the flesh – and there are 18 of them. The number 18 means
“bondage, freedom” (Judges 3: 14; Judges 10: 7 – 8; Luke 13: 16).
The number 3 represents Trinity and Resurrection, Divine, completeness
and Perfection as well as Confirmation.
The number 20 represents Redemption, Restoration, The Year of Prayer,
Deliverance, Vision, Shifting, New Wine, New Oil and also Pey – The year
of the Mouth.

The date also falls in what is known in the Jewish Calendar as the Season
of Heat (Genesis 8: 22). It is also the end of Elul which according to
Nehemiah 6:15 is when the wall was completed. At the end of Elul is
when the New Year begins with the month of Tishrei.
