First And Most Valuable!

The greatest asset to any organisation is its staff. They are your first and most valuable customers. We have seen many organisations – secular or religious, spend millions on re-tooling and re-structuring, and on the acquisition of foreign ‘experts’ attempting to find solutions to improve organisational performance. They try to determine – ‘Why are sales falling’? ‘Is it the economy?’ ‘Is it the recession?’ But Biblical principles remind us that recession is no excuse for the non-performance of an organisation. Psalm 68: 9 tells us that God blesses those who serve Him, even in a recession. It says, “You, O God, sent a plentiful rain, whereby You confirmed Your inheritance, when it was weary.”

The number one problem that exists within an organisation is a lack of workforce motivation.

So:

  • When your employees work only for the pay but don’t care about, your overall operations or the vision – TROUBLE!
  • When the main goal of your organisation is profit-making at any cost, and there is nothing in the organisation to motivate staff – TROUBLE!
  • When staff members at any level feel as if they are not a part of the organisation or have a fear of losing their jobs – TROUBLE!
  • When management or investors see their staff as nothing but paid labor – TROUBLE!
  • When employees are de-motivated it affects every area of the organisation’s performance.

With motivated staff, your organisation will be successful in any economic climate and solutions will be coming from them.

Internal promotion is the key to both motivation and growth in your organisation. If there is no scope for promotion within, then your organisation is on the wrong path. Bringing in external managers for hefty salaries in order to bring change when in fact they bring nothing to the table, means you have failed and indicates a foundation problem exists.

Sadly many of these ‘managers’ are usually employed through club friendships, which hurts the organisation and diminishes staff morale. Employing a person with a popular name in the business world does not necessarily bring any positive changes; we need to look at their fruit and the harvest! (Galatians 5)

One de-motivated staff member can pollute the entire organisation in no time and it will negatively affect your external customers. Company leaders often tell of the company’s success without recognizing the contribution of the staff to that success. Business owners must realise that recognition and honor are two important keys for success (Genesis 28: 16; Mark 8: 18; Peter 3: 7; Proverbs 21: 21). It is not only or usually a matter of low wages that de-motivates the staff, but management style and disrespect shown to them; and no honour or recognition is extended to them. (I Timothy 6: 1-2; Ephesians 6: 5 & 9)

David and Solomon knew how to motivate their staff. Interestingly, three kinds of persons followed David – those that were in debt, those distressed and the discontented – but under David’s command they formed a mighty workforce! (I Samuel 22: 1-2)

Invest in your staff, have a succession plan for them to allow them to move up the organisational ladder. The rewards will be great!

Remember:

Motivated staff members can even protect your external customers; they are in no way less than your external customers. Listen to the concerns of staff members without victimizing them.

Honoring both man and God will bring increase. (Proverbs 3: 9-10; I Peter 2: 17; Ephesians 6: 2)

A good salary, health and education plans for them and their families will motivate them. DO NOT ROB THEM! (James 5: 1 – 6)

A motivated staff significantly influences crime reduction and economic growth. A machine can’t replace a good employee. Many organisations crumble when a good staff member leaves.

There are categories of workers within a nation that must be motivated at any cost.

a)Ordained ministers

b)Singers, worshipers and musicians (serving in God’s house)

c)Police, customs officers, border patrol and soldiers

They are the gatekeepers of a nation. They should be exempt from certain taxes and customs duties. (Ezra 7: 24)
