“You alone are the Lord; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. The host of heaven worships you.” (Nehemiah 9: 6)

As we read this Scripture, we (as well as the 150 countries that gathered in Paris recently), must realize that there can be no debate or discussion on climate change without including God.

The meetings were held in an effort to find a workable plan to stave off global catastrophe. When we change – when mankind chooses to change their way of thinking and of operating, then we will not have to worry about climate change.

Before the fall of man, the original order of man’s environment on earth must be distinguished from what it became following the impact of man’s fall. The curse and the eventual deluge; the agricultural, zoological, geological and meteorological disharmony to which creation has been subjected, must not be attributed to God who gave us a perfect earth. It is man’s sin that has brought about what man refers to as climate change.

Global leaders who want to have a serious discussion about and find solutions to climate change, must have the Bible as a guide, going all the way back to Genesis to see how man’s actions affect the globe.

Climate change does not only affect mankind. It affects the earth, the environment, the animals and the sea. The rebellion of man against God and the push to have a godless society is a greater threat than climate change.

Man’s rebellion in times past, brought about a great flood. It also caused a permanent change in weather activity called rain. Prior to rain, there was only mist and dew. Furthermore, the appearance of the rainbow is a symbol that God will not destroy the entire earth again by flood. (Genesis 9: 11 – 13; Genesis 8: 22)

The Solution Is Jesus

Isaiah 24: 5 – 6 clearly outlines what things can defile the earth and cause climate change. It speaks about violating spiritual laws which can bring defilement within the earth – including rebellion against God, war, injustice, breaking God’s covenant, negative speech, perverted and defiling movies and music, legislating God out of schools, politics, government. Then you will begin to see floods, landslides, heatwaves, earthquakes and the rivers either drying up or taking back their old courses.

Eye, ear and skin diseases will resurface and worsen. (Jeremiah 2: 17) Man’s ways defile the very economy of a nation. It stops growth and prosperity.

Mismanagement and unfair distribution of the earth’s resources – gold, silver and so on – through greed, as well as the mistreatment of the poor, all contribute to climate change significantly and this is what they should be discussing and making active efforts to change.

Believe it or not, even our very negative words affect and can destroy the earth. (Hebrews 11; Proverbs 18: 22)

Greed

Trees are being cut down unnecessarily. The reef is being disrupted, unnecessary dredging is taking place, all under the guise of economic development. Many countries are ignoring

regulations which are affecting environmental safety. Toxic waste is continually being dumped into the sea. Nuclear weapons testing and other dangerous tests by world powers are now destroying our marine life.

Our seafood and sea water are no longer safe. If the minority continues to control the wealth and things continue as they are, then we will further destroy the very thing that God gave man to manage. (Genesis 1: 26; Genesis 2: 15)

The Bible is our God-given operational manual to manage earthly affairs. Everything is in it, including how to avoid certain catastrophes. Even our agriculture has suffered. Let us recognize that everything is connected; and as such, Leviticus 25: 3 – 5, reminds us that a day is given for man to rest, so even the earth must rest. There needs to be a global regulatory body to police scientists and developers as well as undersea activities including certain blasting and digging. So much is being destroyed under the banner of science and econ-omic development – including valuable watershed areas. Some of the fertilizers are destroying the earth.

Many nations seek to remove what they view as religion from their grand plans regarding the environment. However, they must recognize that excluding God and His instructions regarding the management of the resources of which He has given us charge over, will come back to haunt us in no uncertain terms and we will all have to face it again if it is not resolved.
